It should be noted that due to appointments with clients, on occasions we will be unable to answer calls. However, if you leave a message we will return your call at the earliest possible time. Please be aware that the practice telephone is manned during business hours between Monday and Friday and that calls will not be returned outside work hours or over the weekend. Accordingly, in the case of an emergency one should contact their local Community Mental Health Crisis Team or present at the closest hospital emergency department.

Consultation Fees

Kristy Attwooll & Associates is committed to providing effective evidence based psychological treatment at a reduced and affordable cost for individuals.

Our scheduled fee is $215 for a 55 minute session which is less than the current recommended rate set by the Australian Psychological Society of $246 per hour. Pensioners, students and the unemployed may be offered a further reduction to the scheduled fee.

A partial rebate for some sessions may be obtained through private health insurance and/or through Medicare with a Mental Health Care Plan referral. However, you are unable to claim both private health insurance and Medicare rebates for the same session.

Consultation fees are payable at the time of one's appointment and can be made by Eftpos, Credit Card (VISA or Mastercard), Cheque or Internet Bank Transfer. If making an internet bank transfer clients are requested to make payment prior to the session and show receipt of payment made.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances, clients will be charged 50% of the full session fee for cancelling with less than 24 hours before their scheduled appointment. The full session fee will be charged for failure to attend a scheduled appointment without cancellation notice. Please note that these cancellation costs are unable to be claimed through Medicare or private health fund insurance.

Medicare Rebate

The Australian Government provides some financial assistance for individuals diagnosed with a Mental Health Disorder who are undertaking psychological treatment. The scheme is known as The Better Access to Mental Health Initiative. Under this scheme, individuals who are assessed as eligible by either a GP or psychiatrist can obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral which allows the client Medicare rebate for 10 psychology sessions per year.

Currently the Medicare rebate for a 50 minute session with a Clinical Psychologist is $124.50.

Individuals with the following diagnoses are eligible for a MHCP referral: Psychotic disorders, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Adjustment Disorder, Bereavement disorders, Phobic Disorders, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Sexual Disorders, Conduct Disorders, Eating Disorders, Alcohol Use Disorders, Drug Use Disorders, Sleep Problems, Attention Deficit Disorder, Co-occurring Anxiety and Depression.

A MHCP referral is valid for one year. When a client has claimed 6 Medicare rebate sessions they must return to their GP or psychiatrist for a review of their MHCP. The psychologist provides the referring doctor with a written report outlining the client’s treatment progress to date. At this review, the referring medical practitioner can approve a further four Medicare rebate sessions.
